Awards & Scholarships

Please see the below list of student and educator awards and scholarships available through the Maryland Chapter of the National Organization for Student Success (NOSSMD). Note: Only members of the NOSSMD are eligible to receive or nominate students for scholarships and awards.

Awards & Scholarships

Award for Outstanding Contributor to Student Success in Maryland

The purpose of this award is to recognize an individual who has made a significant contribution to students, NOSSMD state-wide student success efforts, and/or the developmental education profession.

  • Applicant must be a current NOSSMD member
  • Letter of nomination must accompany the application
  • Letter(s) of endorsement from an administrator or a current or former officer of DEAM/NOSSMD must accompany the application
  • Other supporting materials which document the nominee’s contributions to developmental education in Maryland may be included in the application.

Award for Outstanding Research in Student Success

The purpose of this award is to recognize current or past research, or to encourage future research efforts, by a member of NOSSMD, which will enlighten and strengthen student success theory and/or practice.

  • Applicant must be a current NOSSMD member
  • Applicant must include research abstract (limit 5-10 pages); nominee’s name and professional affiliation should not be identified on the abstract

Rosa Ilardo Howard Memorial Scholarship for Outstanding Alumnus of a Development Education Program

The purpose of this award is to recognize an alumnus of a developmental education program who sets a standard for others to emulate.

  • A letter of recommendation must accompany the application by any current NOSSMD member, Developmental Education Department      Chair, Academic Advising, or Registrar
  • Student must have completed all required developmental education courses (i.e. math, reading, and/or writing)
  • An academic transcript is required (unofficial transcript is acceptable)
